POLICE SPECIAL CONSTABLE WHO HAD PORNOGRAPHIC PICTURES OF BABIES GETS SUSPENDED SENTENCE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Trowbridge, a special constable named Marcus Armstrong has been found guilty of possessing a large collection of indecent images depicting children, including infants.The case came to light after police investigations uncovered his involvement, revealing a deeply troubling pattern of online activity.
According to court records, the investigation was initiated in June 2018 when authorities responded to intelligence suggesting that someone residing at a property in Haydon Wick, Trowbridge, was engaged in downloading and viewing child sex abuse images.
The police arrived at the residence with the suspicion that illegal material was being accessed or stored there.
During the course of the investigation, officers initially arrested Armstrong’s brother, Wayne, in connection with the case.
However, the situation took a surprising turn when Marcus Armstrong, upon learning of his brother’s arrest, contacted the police station himself.
He confessed to detectives that he was the individual responsible for downloading the indecent images.
This revelation prompted further scrutiny of his electronic devices, which subsequently revealed a disturbing collection of images.
The evidence showed that Armstrong had searched online for particularly heinous material involving pre-teen children, including babies.
The images found on his devices were categorized into different levels of severity, with 146 images classified as Category A—the most serious, involving the most explicit content.
During police interviews, Armstrong claimed that he did not derive sexual gratification from the images, a statement that was met with scepticism given the nature of the evidence.
He also admitted to downloading a specialized application designed to delete the images from his computer, asserting that his motive was to remove the material because he no longer wished to possess it, rather than to conceal his activities.
Armstrong, who resides on Frome Road in Trowbridge, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.
The images included 146 in Category A, 143 in Category B, and 169 in Category C, indicating a wide range of severity.
His actions led to his being sentenced to 12 months in prison, though the sentence was suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work and participate in 30 days of rehabilitation activities.
Judge Jason Taylor QC addressed the court, emphasizing the role of individuals like Armstrong in the broader context of child exploitation.
He stated, “You are a cog in this whole machine and without people viewing the images, the images wouldn’t be made.” Following his arrest, Wiltshire Police confirmed that Armstrong was immediately suspended from duty as a special constable.
Deputy Chief Constable Paul Mills reaffirmed the force’s stance on accountability, stating, “No one is above the law,” underscoring the seriousness with which the police treat such offenses and their commitment to upholding justice in the community of Trowbridge.
