NORTHOLT MAN JAILED FOR CHRISTMAS DAY GIRLFRIEND MURDER
Manzar Juma, aged 28, living in Northolt, northwest London, was convicted of murdering his girlfriend, Ruby Love, in 2011.
The Old Bailey court heard that Juma strangled Ms.
Love at his residence before driving to Southall in west London to discard her body into the Grand Union Canal.
The victim, a 23-year-old mother of three from Harrow, had previously experienced domestic violence from Juma.
Despite these earlier issues, she chose to rekindle their relationship the night before her death.
On Christmas Eve, Juma collected Ms.
Love from her mother's home, and she later messaged a friend indicating that she and Juma were back together and he was taking her for a meal.
However, they did not meet up as planned, leading her to call Juma, who claimed he was unaware of any plans and had not been in contact since their breakup.
Neighbors reported hearing loud voices early on Christmas Day, including a woman saying “no.” CCTV footage showed Juma driving near the canal area around that time.
Detective Chief Inspector Tim Duffield commented, “Today, the truth caught up with Manzar Juma.
Not only did he kill Ruby and dump her body, but he also lied to avoid being caught.” Juma was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 16 years before parole eligibility.
