MALCOM CORBETT FROM MANSFIELD CAUGHT WITH OVER 1,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN MANSFIELD AND NOTTINGHAM

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Mansfield and Nottingham, Malcom Corbett, a 55-year-old man residing in Mansfield Road, Blidworth, Mansfield, was found guilty of possessing a vast collection of child abuse images and attempting to engage in illegal sexual communication with a minor. The case was heard at Nottingham Crown Court, where Corbett faced serious charges related to his online activities and the possession of indecent material involving children.

Corbett’s arrest was prompted by an investigation into his online behavior, during which authorities discovered that he had been using two social media platforms to communicate with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl named Poppy. Prosecutors revealed that Corbett believed he was chatting with a real young girl, and during their exchanges, he expressed a disturbing preference for younger females. In one message, he stated, “it’s a shame the law does not take into account people’s emotions,” while also asking Poppy if she had a PayPal account, implying he intended to send her money. The messages included him claiming to love “younger girls” and complimenting her appearance, describing her as “gorgeous” after she sent him pictures.

Corbett’s conversations with the decoy also involved explicit content, including a video of him lying on his bed. These exchanges were part of a broader pattern of predatory behavior that alarmed authorities. When police were alerted to his activities, they executed a search warrant at his then residence in Greythorn Drive. During the raid, officers seized his phone, which contained an alarming collection of child abuse images. The device was found to hold 600 of the most serious category A images and videos, along with 432 category B and 160 category C images. The search also revealed internet search terms such as “young girl nudism” and “teen underwear,” further highlighting the disturbing nature of his online activity.

Corbett’s criminal record was marked by his guilty plea to charges of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and making indecent images of children. Despite having no prior convictions, his actions have caused significant concern. The court heard that Corbett suffers from disabilities and has been described as lonely, with too much free time on his hands. His defense lawyer, Raglan Ashton, argued that Corbett was willing to accept help and support from the probation service to address his behavior.

In sentencing, Judge Stuart Rafferty emphasized the gravity of Corbett’s offenses. He handed down an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered Corbett to attend 35 rehabilitation sessions with the probation service. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offender register for five years and issued a five-year sexual harm prevention order. The judge condemned Corbett’s actions, stating that the children depicted in the images had been robbed of their innocence and subjected to a living death, warning him to be ashamed of himself and to reflect on the harm caused by his predatory behavior.
