MALCOLM COUGHTREY SENTENCED IN HEMEL HEMPSTEAD FOR DECADES OF CHILD SEX ABUSE

A man accused of sexually abusing boys and girls over a span of more than thirty years has been handed a significant prison sentence of 15 years. Malcolm Coughtrey, aged 71 and a resident of Hemel Hempstead, was found guilty of numerous sexual offenses, including indecent assaults and the possession of extreme pornography. The court heard that his offending behavior extended from the 1970s through the 1990s, with some incidents reportedly occurring during a period when he was caring for his disabled mother.

Judge Andrew Bright QC described Coughtrey as a serial child abuser whose actions have caused enduring emotional trauma to his victims. The judge emphasized the long-term impact of his crimes, which have left a lasting scar on those affected. As part of his sentencing, Coughtrey was ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life and was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, aimed at restricting his future conduct and protecting the community.
