JAKE CUMMINGS FROM HEMEL HEMPSTEAD CONVICTED OF STALKING AND VOYEURISM IN LONDON
A Metropolitan Police officer has been found guilty of serious criminal conduct involving stalking and voyeurism, marking a disturbing chapter in law enforcement accountability.Jake Cummings, aged 25 and a resident of Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire, was convicted on multiple counts related to controlling, coercive behavior, and voyeurism. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of invasive and manipulative actions carried out by Cummings, which have caused significant distress to his victims.
Specifically, he was convicted of three counts of controlling and coercive behavior, as well as two counts of voyeurism. Although he admitted to two counts of stalking prior to the trial, the court found him not guilty of one additional voyeurism charge. The jury, however, was unable to reach a verdict on two counts of rape, leaving those charges unresolved. The Crown Prosecution Service has been given a two-week window to decide whether to pursue a new trial for those particular allegations.
The court heard that Cummings initially served as a special constable with Dorset Police starting in April 2018 before transferring to the Metropolitan Police in November 2019 as a regular officer. His misconduct began during his time in law enforcement and involved three women, all in their twenties, who were his victims.
During his relationships with these women, Cummings employed tracking applications on their mobile devices to monitor their whereabouts without their consent. Following the end of each relationship, he continued to harass his victims through various means, including WhatsApp messages, text messages, and social media platforms. He also created new social media accounts under false names to maintain contact and exert control over his victims.
Cummings has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to face sentencing at a later date. He has been suspended from duty by the Metropolitan Police, which is also preparing for a misconduct hearing set to take place next week. The case highlights ongoing concerns about misconduct within police ranks and the importance of accountability and oversight in law enforcement agencies.
