RAF OFFICER CONVICTED OF ABUSE AND THREATENING WIFE OVER INFIDELITY SUSPICION
A senior RAF officer has been convicted of abusing his wife after suspecting she was having an affair.Wing Commander Allan Steele, aged 42, physically and verbally abused his wife Linzi, aged 43, in their house in Waterside, Ayrshire, in July.He grappled with her in an attempt to seize her laptop, believing it contained evidence of her infidelity.
The court heard Steele had uncovered text messages and emails between Linzi and an old school friend, which led him to suspect her of infidelity.During the incident, Steele shouted, swore at, and threatened his wife.
Although he admitted taking the laptop and his wife's phone to a Glasgow forensic analysis company, he denied assaulting her or being abusive.
The court found him guilty of threatening or abusive behaviour but did not find the assault charge proven.
Steele explained he had lost his balance during the struggle, and Mrs.
Steele/claimed he had pushed her, called her a "slut," and accused her of leaving sex toys in view of children.
She stated he had been aggressive and abusive, had begged her not to leave him, and called her terrible names, including accusing her of infidelity with explicit messages.Sentencing was deferred for good behaviour, and Steele's bail was continued.
He recently served at NATO’s Joint Force Command in the Netherlands and was awarded the US Meritorious Service Medal by President Barack Obama for his service at the Pentagon.
The court's verdict confirmed Steele had threatened his wife but noted the assault charge was not proven.
