MABOOB BOSTAN SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS FOR RAPE IN BATLEY AND BRADFORD AFTER 25 YEARS ON THE RUN
A man who committed heinous sexual assaults on a teenage girl and two women before fleeing the United Kingdom has finally been brought to justice after more than a quarter-century on the run. Maboob Bostan, aged 54, was convicted and sentenced to a total of 24 years in prison for his crimes. In 1997, Bostan was accused of attacking a teenage girl in Batley, a town in West Yorkshire. The following year, in 1998, he was linked to an assault on another woman in her 20s, also in Batley. Additionally, in 1997, he was implicated in the sexual assault of a woman in her 30s at Lister Park, located in Bradford. These crimes shocked the local communities and left a lasting impact on the victims.
Despite the gravity of his offenses, Bostan managed to evade arrest by fleeing the UK. He used a false passport to leave the country shortly after being released on bail, making it difficult for authorities to apprehend him. His escape was facilitated by his ability to avoid detection for many years, during which he resided outside the UK, notably in Pakistan.
It was only after DNA evidence conclusively linked him to the crimes that authorities intensified their efforts to locate him. Although there were attempts to extradite Bostan from Pakistan, these efforts proved unsuccessful for a time. It was not until January 2024 that he was finally arrested at Manchester Airport after voluntarily returning to the UK. His return marked a significant breakthrough in the case, allowing law enforcement to bring him to justice.
During his trial at Leeds Crown Court, Bostan did not deny the allegations. He admitted to committing the three rape offenses, acknowledging his guilt in the court proceedings. The court sentenced him to 24 years in prison, with an additional six-year extended license period, ensuring he remains under supervision for years after his release.
West Yorkshire Police officials have publicly described Bostan as a dangerous individual whose actions caused immense suffering to his victims. They expressed their satisfaction with the outcome of the case, emphasizing the importance of justice for those affected by his crimes and the efforts made to bring him to justice after such a long period of evasion.
