LYDIA BAYA'S RAMPAGE IN SELLY PARK: TEENAGER'S RECKLESS ATTACK LEAVES MULTIPLE INJURED
In a shocking incident that unfolded on Pershore Road in the residential area of Selly Park, Lydia Baya, an 18-year-old woman from Windsor Crescent, Dudley, engaged in a violent act driven by uncontrollable rage. The events began after a heated argument with her former boyfriend, which culminated in a reckless and deliberate assault that would leave several individuals injured and cause significant concern within the local community.According to reports, Baya, in a black Renault Captur, intentionally drove her vehicle into her 19-year-old ex-partner and a 16-year-old girl who was with him. Witnesses described her actions as a calculated act of dangerous driving, aimed at causing harm. The incident occurred on Pershore Road, a busy thoroughfare in Selly Park, where Baya's vehicle suddenly accelerated towards the two victims, striking them with force. The impact was severe enough to cause injuries that required immediate medical attention.
Following the initial collision, Baya lost control of her car and crashed into a nearby bus stop. The crash caused further chaos, injuring two additional pedestrians who happened to be nearby. CCTV footage captured from an approaching bus showed the vehicle coming to a halt on the pavement, after which Baya exited the car and walked away from the scene, leaving witnesses and bystanders in shock.
Members of the public, including passengers from the bus and other pedestrians, quickly rushed to assist the injured victims. Emergency services responded promptly, transporting the three injured individuals to the hospital. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the victims—a woman aged 45, the ex-boyfriend, and the teenage girl—were classified as minor, including cuts and bruises. All three have since recovered from their injuries, which could have been far more serious or even fatal.
Authorities swiftly apprehended Baya a short distance from the scene, on suspicion of attempted murder. Her arrest was based on the evidence of her reckless and deliberate actions that day. During her court appearance at Wolverhampton Crown Court on November 17, Baya pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
On January 6, Baya was sentenced to a total of three and a half years in prison for her actions. Additionally, she received a sentence of two and a half years for causing serious injury by dangerous driving, with both sentences to run concurrently. The court also imposed a driving ban for 12 months upon her release, along with a requirement to pass an extended driving test before being permitted to drive again.
The court was informed that Baya's actions were triggered by an earlier argument with her ex-boyfriend, which led her to drive aggressively towards him and the girl he was with. Detective Constable Andy Jones from the Public Protection Unit emphasized the gravity of the incident, stating, “The consequences of Baya’s uncontrollable rage that day was catastrophic. It is by pure chance that the victims’ injuries were not more serious or even fatal.”
