LUKE LAMONT CAUGHT IN ATHERSTONE: SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
In September 2018, a man from Atherstone named Luke Samuel Lamont faced justice at Warwick Crown Court after being convicted of serious sexual offences involving a minor. The case came to light when Lamont was apprehended by a dedicated paedophile hunting team, which had set up a sting operation to catch individuals attempting to engage in illegal activities with minors.Lamont, who had previously been convicted of similar offences, appeared before the court to admit to multiple charges. These included attempting to communicate sexually with a child via online platforms and breaching a sexual harm prevention order that had been previously imposed on him. The court was informed that Lamont had actively sought out contact with what he believed was a young girl by using an online profile. He sent a series of explicit and sexual messages, revealing his interest in depraved acts, including bestiality.
The prosecution highlighted that Lamont’s actions were uncovered during an operation conducted by the group 'Defending The Innocent,' working alongside their decoy, known as 'Tash Decoy.' It was during this operation that Lamont was caught in the act, and he was immediately arrested at the scene. Since his arrest, he has been held on remand, awaiting trial.
In court, Lamont was sentenced to 12 months in prison for the offence of sexual communication with a minor. Additionally, because his previous suspended sentence was re-activated, he received an extra 10 months imprisonment, bringing his total custodial sentence to 22 months. The judge also ordered that Lamont must register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a standard requirement for individuals convicted of such serious offences.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and community groups to combat online grooming and sexual exploitation of children, with the aim of protecting vulnerable minors from predatory individuals like Lamont.
