OFFENDER WHO CHEERED WINNING ATHERSTONE BALL GAME DESPITE SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR ASSAULT
The ex-girlfriend of Kieran Marshall has revealed how he assaulted her during a holiday, describing how he punched, strangled, spat at her, and caused significant injuries.Kieran Marshall, 26, was known for winning the 2023 Atherstone Ball Game while on a suspended prison sentence for assaulting his former partner, Sarah Turner.
Despite his past conviction, he was cheered on by crowds as he won the event, which is traditionally violent and involves fighting for a ball.
.Ms Turner reported that Marshall had 'punched, strangled and spat at her' during an assault on a family holiday in a Lincolnshire chalet, which occurred on August 5, 2021.
She described him attacking her after she questioned his whereabouts, and court evidence showed her injuries, including a door handle imprint on her back.
Marshall denied the assault but was found guilty of assault by beating after a trial, and he was sentenced to 16 weeks jail, suspended for 12 months, on January 5, 2023.
He was ordered to complete a 15-day rehabilitation program, pay £300 in court costs, a £128 victim surcharge, and £200 in compensation.
The victim expressed her frustration that despite the suspended sentence, he was freely parading during the event, which she perceives as a disregard for justice.
Ms Turner voiced her concerns about the police and organizers celebrating his win and allowing him to continue fundraising and attending public events while still being under a suspended sentence, criticizing what she sees as a lack of accountability and fairness.
She stated: 'He's basically been able to go out and have scraps with people, when he's just been done for assault.
If he was to go out on a normal night out, he'd be in prison now,' and described her ongoing emotional distress.
Marshall declined to comment after being contacted, and the event organizers stated they were not aware of his criminal background but did not condone such behavior.
