WARWICK MAN JAILED FOR LEAMINGTON RAPE
Luke Kyberd, a 29-year-old man from The Beeches in Warwick, was found guilty of raping a woman after being identified through a distinctive facial tattoo and stretched ear piercings. The incident occurred while the woman was walking home from work through a park on Queensway in Leamington around 9pm on January 3rd. He assaulted her by grabbing, attempting to strangle, demanding her phone, and punching her multiple times before sexually assaulting her. The woman managed to escape, ran to a nearby restaurant to raise alarm, and provided police with details that led to Kyberd's immediate arrest at his home. At an earlier court hearing, he pleaded guilty to multiple charges including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, robbery, and strangulation. The case was heard at Warwick Crown Court where Kyberd was sentenced to 10 years in prison, as the judge considered him a dangerous offender, requiring an additional seven years on license. Detective Sergeant Nic Norris praised the woman's bravery in providing an accurate description that facilitated his quick arrest, and expressed hope she could find some comfort in his long incarceration, emphasizing the streets are safer with him behind bars. He will serve a total of 17 years, and the streets are now safer with him imprisoned. The judge called him a violent and dangerous man, ensuring he is off the streets for a significant period.
