Stonehaven man avoids jail after undercover police sting for child exploitation

STONEHAVEN MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER UNDERCOVER POLICE STING FOR CHILD EXPLOITATION

A man from Stonehaven named Luke Craddock was involved in a serious criminal case involving child exploitation.

During his actions in May 2023, Craddock believed he was messaging a 12-year-old boy called Samuel, but he was actually communicating with an undercover police officer on the messaging platform Kik.

The police officer had been deployed to find individuals interested in children for sexual purposes.

The court heard that Craddock exchanged explicit messages, including videos and images of a sexual nature, with the officer posing as a child.

Craddock sent a sexually explicit video of a child and discussed engaging in sexual activities, also requesting private images from the supposed victim.

Police later confronted him at his workplace, where they seized his phone, revealing videos of boys aged between 10 and 14 involved in sexual acts.

Further investigations recovered additional images and videos, with many categorized as highly serious under the law.

Craddock admitted to charges of possessing indecent images, distributing some of those images, and enticing a child to view such images.

He was sentenced to community service, supervised probation for three years, 260 hours of unpaid work, an eight-month home detention order, and restrictions on contacting minors or being near child-related facilities.

He was also placed on the Sex Offender’s Register and subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years.

Despite suffering from autism and ADHD, and undergoing therapy, he received a relatively lenient sentence considering the severity of his crimes.
