LUCIAN MAJOR FROM NORTHAMPTON LIVING IN EXETER AFTER SEX OFFENDER BREACH

A convicted sex offender from Northampton, Lucian Major, has been found residing in Wonford, Exeter, raising concerns about ongoing compliance with legal restrictions. Major, who has a history of serious sexual offenses, was sentenced to two years and six months in prison in 2022 after an incident in Northampton where he approached a woman, breaching the conditions of his previous conviction.

Back in 2017, Major, then aged 33 and originally from Northampton, was convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a minor under the age of 16. Despite being subject to strict legal conditions designed to prevent contact with certain individuals, Major's actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for these restrictions. In July of the previous year, he approached the same woman he had previously abused at a local fair in Northampton. The woman, recognizing him, took a photograph of Major and promptly contacted the police to report the incident.

Within 24 hours of the woman's call, Major was arrested. During police custody, he attempted to deny his identity, despite the distinctive trainers he was wearing being clearly visible in the photograph taken by the woman. He falsely claimed he was not the man in the image, even though evidence strongly linked him to the incident. Further complicating his case, police found a bank card in his possession that he had failed to disclose, which led to additional charges related to breaching notification requirements and failing to comply with the terms of his sexual harm prevention order.

Major faced a three-day trial at Northampton Crown Court, which concluded on January 12. The court convicted him of breaching his sexual harm prevention order, along with other related offences. The judge sentenced him to an additional two years and six months in prison, emphasizing the seriousness of his breaches and the importance of safeguarding victims. Investigator PC James Brookes highlighted that Major's actions, including his denial and continued risk, demonstrated a clear disregard for the legal orders meant to protect the public. He also expressed gratitude to the woman who bravely testified in court, acknowledging her courage in the face of such a distressing situation.

Northamptonshire Police have reaffirmed their commitment to acting swiftly against offenders who breach their conditions. The court's ruling ensures that Major will have no further contact with the victim, and his current residence in Exeter is under scrutiny as authorities monitor his compliance with the law. The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in managing high-risk offenders and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals from potential harm.
