GEORGE SAVAGE: NORTHAMPTON PAEDOPHILE SEEKING CHEMICAL CASTRATION TO STOP HIS PERVERTED INTERESTS

In March 2009, a disturbing case emerged involving George Savage, a 61-year-old man from Northampton who has a troubling history of sexual offenses against minors. Savage, who had previously been convicted of indecent assaults in the 1980s, was found to have targeted two teenage boys from his community, luring them into his home under the guise of offering assistance with homework and access to his computer.

Once inside, Savage subjected the vulnerable teenagers to repeated sexual abuse, exploiting their trust and innocence. The severity of his actions was compounded by the fact that he took explicit photographs of his young victims, further demonstrating his predatory behavior. The community and authorities became aware of Savage’s misconduct when concerned adults, including friends of the defendant, noticed the frequent visits of these boys to his residence and grew suspicious of his motives.

It was also publicly known that Savage had a criminal record dating back to the 1980s, which included three indecent assaults on a 10-year-old boy in 1982. This history of offending underscored the pattern of his predatory behavior. The police investigation revealed that Savage had downloaded child abuse images, adding to the charges against him.

During the trial at Northampton Crown Court, prosecutor Stuart Yeung detailed the extent of Savage’s misconduct. One of the victims recounted telling Savage that he did not want him to do these things anymore, only to be met with Savage’s chilling response: “Why? I enjoy it.”

Judge Thomas Corrie sentenced Savage to a term of four years and three months in prison for the sexual offenses committed against the two boys. An additional nine months were added consecutively for the possession and downloading of child pornography. In his sentencing remarks, Judge Corrie described Savage as having an “unhealthy and perverted interest in young boys,” emphasizing that he had taken advantage of and coerced particularly vulnerable children.

He further stated that Savage was aware of his urges since the 1980s but had failed to control them. The judge acknowledged Savage’s current efforts to seek help through a prison psychiatrist and his active exploration of chemical castration as a means to curb his dangerous impulses. Despite this, the judge made it clear that Savage remains a significant threat to young boys, citing his high risk of reoffending.

Matthew Lowe, representing Savage, highlighted that the defendant had been sexually abused himself as a child in care, which he claimed contributed to his current state of remorse. Lowe expressed that Savage was “completely and utterly disgusted with himself” and was eager to undergo chemical castration as soon as possible, believing it would substantially reduce or eliminate the likelihood of further offending.
