MORAY MAN FOUND GUILTY AT HIGH COURT IN INVERNESS OF RAPING AN UNDERAGE GIRL AND A WOMAN IN ELGIN
A 22-year-old man has been found guilty of raping both an underage girl and a woman in Elgin.Logan Reid appeared at the High Court in Inverness where a jury found him unanimously guilty of raping a teenager under the age of 16 in Elgin on March 25, 2023.
The charge states that the girl was intoxicated and incapable of consenting and he repeatedly ignored her attempts to stop him.
Separately, he was found guilty of raping a woman on multiple occasions and at various addresses across Scotland between December 1, 2020, and April 4, 2022.
Charges state that Reid assaulted the woman by seizing and pulling her body, kissing her neck, attempting to kiss her, touching her, seizing her breasts and raping her.
Attacks took place at addresses in Elgin, Airdrie, Dunbar, Pitlochry and Clydebank.
In relation to raping the teenager, Reid, of Anderson Drive in Elgin, was unanimously found to have perverted the course of justice on March 26, 2023, at Kittybrewster Police Office in Aberdeen.
The 22-year-old refused DNA swabs of his penis, hands and nails to avoid providing forensic evidence linking him to the attack.
Judge Olga Pasportnikov told the jury that the trial was “fairly historic” as it was one of the first in Scotland without a ‘not proven’ verdict available to jurors.
The not proven verdict was abolished in all new criminal trials in Scotland from January 1, 2026, to help create a clearer, fairer and more transparent decision-making process.
Sentencing on Reid has been deferred until March 4 for background reports to be completed.
He was remanded in custody and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
