LOGAN DUNCAN OF GREENWICH SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ANIMAL CRUELTY AND STARVATION OF DOG
In a tragic case that has shocked the Greenwich community, Logan Duncan, born on October 10, 1991, and residing at Sandbach Place, Greenwich, London SE18 7EX, was found guilty of causing the death of his pet dog through neglect and starvation.The case drew significant attention after inspectors from the RSPCA uncovered the dire condition of Duncan’s Rottweiler, named Oscar, who was discovered in a severely emaciated state that indicated prolonged suffering.
Oscar was found in December 2014 by RSPCA inspectors in a collapsed and critically undernourished condition.
The dog’s body was so frail that he was described as skeletal, with a serious skin condition that had resulted in significant fur loss.
The inspectors immediately transported Oscar to a veterinary clinic for emergency treatment, but tragically, he succumbed to his condition en route to the vet’s office.
The inspectors reported that Oscar’s weight was just 17.5 kilograms, which is approximately a third of what a dog of his breed and size should normally weigh, highlighting the severity of his neglect.
Following the investigation, Duncan admitted in August 2015 that he had failed to provide adequate veterinary care for Oscar’s worsening health and had kept the dog in an environment that was unsuitable for his needs.
The RSPCA inspector, Callum Isitt, described the heartbreaking scene: “It was a very sad Christmas last year.
The sight of poor Oscar was heartbreaking – he was skin and bone.
It would have been obvious to anyone that something was seriously wrong.
He weighed just 17.5kg – a third of what a dog his size and breed should have weighed.
He also had a severe skin condition which meant the dog’s fur was either thin or missing.
He was unable to get to his feet and had to be carried to my van.
I rushed him straight to the vets but very sadly he died en route.
You can’t help thinking ‘If only they’d called us earlier,’ it could have all been very different, which is just so sad.” As a consequence of his actions, Duncan was sentenced to 20 weeks in jail, ordered to pay £730 in costs, and received a lifelong ban from owning any animals.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the devastating consequences of neglect and cruelty towards animals.
