PERTH TEEN SENT ABUSIVE CAMPAIGN AND THREATENING VIDEO TO GIRL
A Perth teenager named Linden Reid has been involved in a serious case of abuse and violence. Reid sent a distressing video to a girl he had been abusing over nearly eight months, which showed him setting fire to her jacket. He captioned the video: "Don't ever f*** with me again." The motivation behind this act was that he was unhappy because the girl had gone out socialising with her friends. Reid appeared in court to face charges on indictment and admitted to an eight-month campaign of "very unpleasant" abuse. The abuse included attacking her with a mug, punching her in the face, and using a knife against her jacket. After she blocked him on social media, Reid created multiple fake accounts to continue sending her abusive messages, including a threat wishing her to kill herself. The court concluded that "this is the sort of case that attracts a custodial sentence." Further details of abuse The court established that both Reid and his victim were under 18 at the time of these events. Reid was particularly controlling, not wanting her to attend school because there were boys there. She had to ask permission days in advance to see her friends. During a 3 a.m. argument at Reid's house, he flipped over a gaming table while holding a knife, then slashed the sleeves of her puffer jacket, leaving her scared and upset. Reid later returned to apologize. On another occasion, he beat her about the head with a cup, causing her to bleed, and punched her in the nose, leading to significant bleeding and blood-stained clothes. During a different argument, Reid threw her bag, spilling nail polish, and called her a "slag." He also sent her a threatening video of her jacket on fire, which she saw after she had socialized. On a separate instance, he sent her a video call request, where she saw him performing a solo sex act without her consent. When she declined his advances, she blocked him on Snapchat, but Reid continued to contact her via fake accounts, sending abusive messages and threatening her with assault and encouraging her to harm herself. Reid pleaded guilty to a campaign of abuse lasting nearly eight months. Though he faced additional accusations, such as assault resulting in severe injury and holding a knife to her neck, these were withdrawn in court. His lawyer described the case as a "very unpleasant narrative of serious offending" and indicated the plea had been reduced, serving the public interest. The sheriff deferred sentencing for background reports, warning Reid that "this is the sort of case that attracts a custodial sentence."
