LIAM MILLAR OF MOTHERWELL SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE IN HAMILTON AND MOTHERWELL
Liam Millar, a 22-year-old man from Motherwell, has been sentenced to a prison term of 41 months following a series of disturbing domestic abuse incidents that took place across the towns of Motherwell and Hamilton during the years 2019 and 2020. The court heard harrowing details of Millar's violent and abusive behavior towards three women, revealing a pattern of brutality and emotional torment. One of the most alarming episodes involved Millar assaulting a woman who was pregnant at the time. During this violent encounter, he ominously warned her, saying, "I'll stab the life out of you." Such a threat underscores the severity of his aggression and the danger he posed to his victims. The court also learned that Millar physically abused another woman on multiple occasions, subjecting her to repeated violence. In addition to the physical assaults, he falsely accused her of sleeping with her own father and sneaking out at night to meet other men, further demonstrating his manipulative and abusive tendencies.
When police officers brought charges against him, Millar displayed a dismissive attitude, making a flippant remark, "lassies being lassies," which reflected his blatant lack of remorse and indifference towards the suffering he caused. Despite being unemployed, Millar made disparaging comments about women, claiming that "women just want all the f****** money," a statement that revealed his contempt and misogyny. During the court proceedings, he laughed as he was informed of the charges, showing a disturbing lack of empathy.
Further details revealed that Sylvia Lyttle, who was three months pregnant with Millar's child, was also a victim of his violence. He assaulted her and later sent her a threatening message, adding to the list of his abusive actions. Millar's history of violence extended to other partners as well. Emily Hobson, his previous partner, endured repeated physical abuse at his hands, and another woman, Bryony Boyd, was punched in the face during an altercation.
As part of his sentencing, the court imposed non-harassment orders that prohibit Millar from contacting any of his victims for a period of five years. Additionally, he will be under supervision for one year following his release from prison, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct to prevent further harm. The case highlights the serious nature of domestic abuse and the importance of holding offenders accountable for their actions in the communities of Motherwell and Hamilton.
