FORMER NOTTINGHAM FOREST STEWARD JAILED FOR HORRIFIC PARTNER ABUSE
Liam Doyle, a father of seven and a former Nottingham Forest steward who engaged in repeated physical abuse against his partner, had his contract with Nottingham Forest ended several months prior to his imprisonment.Doyle's last role as a steward at the club was in April.
He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on November 24 to a three-year jail term.
The court was informed that his partner lost track of how many times Doyle assaulted her.
During their relationship, Doyle also strangled the victim until she lost consciousness, mounted her and gouged at her eyes.
Doyle tried to control her by dictating her clothing choices, whom she saw, calling her offensive names, and insisting she delete her Facebook account.
He pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and intentional strangulation.
Mitigating counsel Benn Robinson stated that three of Doyle's children were living with him, and he has four more.
Robinson described the relationship as toxic on both sides and acknowledged that alcohol and drugs influenced his behaviour but did not excuse it.
Doyle has been remanded in custody since May and has used his time inside to become a peer mentor to younger inmates.
Doyle was ultimately sentenced to three years in prison.
