NORTH SHIELDS OFFENDER JAILED FOR RACIAL ABUSE AND ATTACK ON EX-PARTNER
A man named Lewis Nicholson has been sentenced for multiple offences, including racially abusing a Metro guard and suffocating his former partner.Nicholson, aged 26, was involved in a disturbing series of incidents.
During a confrontation at North Shields Metro Station on the evening of July 11, 2023, he was intoxicated and verbally abusive, telling a guard to go back to his home country using racist language, and he threatened to throw staff onto the tracks.
When police attempted to handcuff him, Nicholson continued to shout and be verbally aggressive.
The victim of the racial abuse, who was a Metro guard, expressed feelings of fear and said that Nicholson's behavior was "disgusting," causing her to feel anxious and depressed.
Nicholson also attacked his former partner twice.
In May 2024, after she ended their relationship, Nicholson attended her home, banging on the doors and refusing to leave.
When the victim answered, he apparently lunged towards her, grabbed her neck, and spat at her and her mother.
In a second incident in June 2024 in the Tynemouth area, Nicholson and his former partner argued, during which he used racial slurs and called her a "rat." He then grabbed her neck and covered her mouth, which made her feel her vision blur and led her to fear she might have lost consciousness.
In court, Nicholson pleaded guilty to racially aggravated public disorder, assault by beating, and intentional suffocation.
The judge sentenced him to two years and ten months in prison, activating a suspended sentence, and issued a restraining order for seven years against his former partner.
The court acknowledged Nicholson's participation in multiple courses while in custody and his remorsefulness, with the judge noting the impact of his actions on the victims' mental health and well-being.
