COLCHESTER MAN LOSES APPEAL AGAINST 2.5-YEAR SENTENCE
A Colchester man who threatened his partner with a knife has lost an appeal against his two and a half-year jail sentence.Leslie Smith, 30, got into an argument with his ex-partner after he had been drinking alcohol.
As the argument escalated, his partner wanted to leave the house with their two children.
Smith, of Charles Pell Road, picked up a knife and lunged at her as she fled upstairs.
The defendant, who had left the property and returned later in the evening, then caused damage to the front door by repeatedly kicking it, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
Smith was sentenced for threatening with a bladed article and criminal damage at Chelmsford Crown Court on July 10.
A non-contact order was imposed, prohibiting him from contacting the victim for five years.
The only contact can be made through third parties for child-care arrangements.
Smith appealed against the sentence, but the appeal was denied, and he will serve the original sentence.
