CARLISLE SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT AND BREACH OF COURT ORDER
A sexual offender from Carlisle, Leighton Lewis, aged 32, was involved in violent behavior on January 9 after he was challenged by a woman during an incident at a house from which he was banned.Lewis reacted aggressively, verbally abusing her and threatening to hit her.
He then physically pinned her to a sofa, straddling her with his knees, and spat in her face—a severe form of common assault.
When she attempted to call police, Lewis seized her mobile phone and left the property, returning later in the early hours and again engaging in verbal abuse.
When arrested by police at his home, he was found with a tablet device that he had failed to declare, which was a violation of his court order.
Lewis admitted to breaching his sexual harm prevention order, which was imposed in June 2024 after his conviction for attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity.
The conviction stemmed from an online sting where he sent lewd images to an individual he believed was a 13-year-old girl, who was actually an adult decoy working for a paedophile hunter group.
Lewis blamed his conduct on being 'off his head' on cocaine.
His offenses also included ignoring his court order, theft of a mobile phone, and assault, with Judge Michael Fanning sentencing him to 18 months in custody, emphasizing the severity of his actions, especially the assault where he spat in the woman's face.
