CLACTON MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER MURDERING EX-GIRLFRIEND
Lee Thompson, who is 44 years old and from Clacton in Essex, was found guilty of killing Janet Graney, a woman with five children, at the Esplanade Hotel in Clacton on April 29.The post-mortem report confirmed that Thompson, upon whom authorities conducted a forensic examination, strangled Ms.
Graney by applying pressure to her neck.
At the time of the incident, Thompson was residing at the hotel after having recently been released from an 18-month prison sentence for theft and deception, having been out of custody for less than a day before the murder.
The relationship between Thompson and the victim—who was 51—had been characterized by on-and-off occurrences over a period of seven years.
Her decision to visit him at the hotel was believed by senior detective Godfrey O’Toole to have been motivated by her desire to prioritize her family’s well-being, which ultimately resulted in her tragic death.
Thompson denied having committed murder but told investigators he had not meant to kill her.
The police found her face covered with a pillow.
He was later sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 15 years before eligibility for parole.
