TELFORD MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT LEAVING WOMAN WITH LIFELONG INJURIES
A man has been imprisoned after causing severe injuries to a woman during an attack in Telford.Lee Sargent, a resident of Culmington, assaulted the woman using a meat cleaver, resulting in 32 wounds to her face and hands.
The assault took place on August 1, 2023, when police responded to a dropped emergency call from a residence in Culmington.
Authorities found the woman unconscious, suffering from critical injuries, and first aid administered by officers was crucial in saving her life.
Sargent, aged 47, was detained the following day and admitted guilt in December 2023.
On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison at Stafford Crown Court for attempted murder.
The woman remained hospitalized for 11 days and was left with injuries that will affect her for life.
Detective Constable Becky Jasper characterized the case as one of the most severe domestic violence incidents she has encountered, emphasizing the extensive and debilitating nature of the attack on the victim.
She encouraged individuals experiencing domestic abuse to seek assistance from law enforcement.
Besides the prison term for attempted murder, Sargent received interim sentences of two months each for assaulting an emergency responder and for neglecting a child.
