LEE ROWE OF HALL GREEN SENTENCED TO OVER TWO YEARS FOR COERCIVE CONTROL AND THREATS
Lee Rowe, a man from Hall Green, has been handed down a prison sentence of two years and four months after being found guilty of a series of controlling and coercive behaviors aimed at his partner. The court proceedings revealed that Rowe subjected his partner to relentless psychological torment through an overwhelming barrage of over 400 text messages sent within a mere five-minute span. These messages included explicit threats, such as a warning to set fire to a house belonging to a friend who had children inside, illustrating the severity of his intimidation tactics.Rowe’s history of abusive conduct is well-documented, with the court noting his eight previous convictions related to harassment. His disturbing communications extended beyond mere threats; he also sent images depicting self-harm and included threats involving a knife, which he used to damage property. His criminal record further reveals that he previously served an 18-month prison sentence for sending abusive messages to another former partner, during which he threatened to harm her pet dog, adding a layer of cruelty to his pattern of violence.
The victim, who spoke out during the case, described her life as “destroyed” by Rowe’s actions and expressed her strong desire to never encounter him again. The court heard that Rowe’s behavior was driven by paranoia and insecurity, with Judge Dean Kershaw describing him as someone who was relentlessly attempting to control and intimidate his partner. The judge pointed out that Rowe’s actions appeared motivated by fears that she was seeing other people, which fueled his aggressive conduct.
Evidence presented in court highlighted a disturbing pattern of controlling and violent behavior. One incident involved Rowe preventing his partner from leaving her home after an argument, followed by continued harassment even after she attempted to distance herself. The court emphasized that Rowe’s violent tendencies and controlling nature had been ongoing, culminating in his previous conviction in August 2018. This history of abuse and intimidation ultimately led to his current sentencing, underscoring the seriousness of his actions and the court’s condemnation of his conduct.
