LEE NENDICK FROM COLBURN JAILED IN YORK FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES AFTER PAEDOPHILE HUNTER STING
In a significant development in the fight against online child exploitation, Lee Nendick, a resident of Colburn, has been sentenced to prison following his arrest for serious child sex crimes. The incident, which took place in January 2019, involved a sting operation conducted by the Child Online Safety Team, a group dedicated to combating online predators. On Sunday, January 13, authorities received crucial intelligence from the paedophile hunter organization, which led to Nendick's immediate arrest at his home in Manor Grove, Colburn. The operation was captured live and subsequently shared on Facebook, bringing public attention to the case. During the confrontation, Nendick was confronted by a representative from the Child Online Safety Team, who revealed that the individual Nendick had been communicating with online was an adult decoy, not a minor as he believed.
According to reports, Nendick had engaged in a sexual conversation with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl. However, the decoy had informed him that he was actually messaging an adult posing as a minor. This exchange was part of the online sting designed to catch predators attempting to exploit children. The video footage of the confrontation is publicly accessible and has been widely viewed.
Prior to this incident, Nendick had a history of similar offenses. In September 2014, he was prosecuted for sending inappropriate and sexual messages to a schoolgirl. Despite the girl repeatedly telling him that her advances were unwelcome, Nendick persisted. During that earlier case, he admitted to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and was fined for his actions.
In the recent case, Nendick pleaded guilty to two charges: attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child and attempting to incite a girl aged 13-15 to engage in sexual activity, with no penetration involved. The court, presided over by York Crown Court, sentenced him to 16 months in prison.
In addition to his imprisonment, Nendick was subjected to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and was placed on the sex offenders’ register for a decade. These measures are intended to restrict his activities and monitor his behavior moving forward.
Sam, a representative from the Child Online Safety Team involved in the sting, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We are very pleased with the result. Nendick is off the streets and has plenty of time to reflect on his actions.”
Overall, this case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and specialized groups to protect children from online predators and bring offenders to justice, especially those with prior convictions. The authorities hope that such actions serve as a deterrent to others contemplating similar crimes in the future.
