TEACHER HANDED COMMUNITY ORDER AFTER SENDING SEX TEXTS TO GIRL
A teacher who sent a sleazy 'sex text' to a child has walked free from court.Psychology teacher Lee Davies admitted he sent sexual messages to a girl via WhatsApp but insisted he was not a paedophile.
The 43-year-old, who had worked as a teacher for 19 years, confessed to engaging in sexual communication with a child.
He was handed an 18-month community order with 200 hours of unpaid work, a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement, and £199 in costs.
Magistrate Ian Jones described the case as a 'moment of madness' and told Davies he should 'count himself very lucky' he was not more severely punished, warning that he could have been escorted by two men in a van outside the court.
Prosecutor Helen Shipley stated he fully accepted the messaging with the victim was for attention rather than sexual purposes, and Davies claimed he did not find the girl attractive or that he was attracted to children.
The court heard Davies had no previous convictions and showed genuine remorse, with his defense asserting this was a single offence and that he had taken steps to address his behavior.
He expressed regret for his actions, saying, 'I want to apologise for my actions.
Thank you for your time.' The magistrate emphasized that Davies had lost his career, his standing in society, and was in rented accommodation, having suffered due to his behavior.
