LEA BISHOP SENTENCED IN CAMBRIDGE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILD
In a case that has shocked the community of Cambridge, Lea Bishop, a 41-year-old man from Bisley Crescent, Upper Cambourne, was convicted and sentenced for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young girl. The allegations against Bishop first came to light in July 2016 when authorities were alerted to accusations of historical sexual misconduct involving a girl who was only 10 years old at the time the abuse began.According to reports, the victim endured a prolonged period of abuse, during which Bishop subjected her to multiple acts of sexual assault, including rape and penetration. The severity and duration of the abuse prompted a thorough investigation by law enforcement officials, who gathered substantial evidence against Bishop.
During the court proceedings held at Cambridge Crown Court, Bishop admitted to committing five counts of sexual assault on a girl under the age of 13, as well as one count of rape and one count of assault by penetration, all involving a minor. His admissions confirmed the allegations and led to a detailed sentencing process.
On Thursday, Bishop was handed a significant prison sentence. He received three years for one count of sexual assault, five years each for four additional counts of sexual assault, and an extended sentence of 13 years and six months for the rape, which also includes a five-year period on licence. Additionally, he was sentenced to 11 years for the assault by penetration. All these sentences are to run concurrently, meaning he will serve the combined length of the longest sentence.
Furthermore, Bishop has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. He is also subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which will remain in effect indefinitely, restricting his behavior to prevent any further harm. The case underscores the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and highlights the judicial system’s commitment to punishing those who commit such grave offenses in the Cambridge area.
