LAWRENCE JOHNSON FROM PEMBROKESHIRE DEMANDS LIFE IMPRISONMENT AFTER ADMITTING TO ABUSING OVER 300 CHILDREN
In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves through Pembrokeshire and the wider community, Lawrence Johnson, a 58-year-old man from St Clears in Pembrokeshire, has publicly requested that he be sentenced to life imprisonment. Johnson, who has a long history of sexual offenses against children, made this plea during a court hearing at Swansea Crown Court, revealing the extent of his disturbing actions and the fears surrounding his potential release.Johnson’s request comes after he admitted to a staggering number of offenses involving the sexual abuse of over 300 children. The court was informed that Johnson had a pattern of predatory behavior, with allegations that he repeatedly assaulted a six-year-old girl over several months. These crimes remained undisclosed for years, only coming to light after investigations and subsequent arrests. Prosecuting barrister Trefor Davies detailed that Johnson’s confessions to police included claims that he was constantly preoccupied with thoughts of attacking children, highlighting the depth of his disturbing mental state.
Further evidence presented in court revealed that Johnson had also sexually assaulted a boy over a four-year period, with these offenses culminating in 1994. The court was reminded that Johnson’s criminal record was extensive, with previous convictions for sex offenses against children dating back to 1975, 1981, and 1999. This pattern of repeated offenses underscored the persistent danger Johnson posed to society.
During the proceedings, Johnson’s defense lawyer, James Jenkins, argued that his client believed he was beyond reform and expressed genuine fear of being released back into the community. The psychiatrist Philip Huckle, called to provide expert testimony, stated that it might never be safe to consider Johnson for release, given the severity and frequency of his offenses.
Judge Mr. Justice Turner addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of Johnson’s admissions. He stated, “You have admitted to attacking more than 300 children. You represent a significant risk to any young person you come into contact with. It cannot be known when, if ever, you will cease to be a danger.” The judge’s words underscored the dangerous nature of Johnson’s crimes and the ongoing threat he poses, leading to the conclusion that a life sentence would be appropriate to protect society from further harm.
As of the latest update in May 2025, Lawrence Johnson’s health has deteriorated. He died on January 13, 2024, at HMP Frankland due to a ruptured atherosclerotic abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). His death marked the end of a long and troubling chapter in the ongoing fight against child sexual abuse, leaving behind a legacy of fear and the urgent need for continued vigilance.
