KYLE SMITH SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS IN PRISON IN PRESTON FOR CHILD ASSAULT
In August 2012, a man named Kyle Smith was sentenced to seven years in prison following a disturbing assault on a three-year-old child.At Preston Crown Court, Smith, 20, showed no reaction as he received his extended sentence.
Smith denied intentionally causing harm to the young child, but medical professionals concluded otherwise, stating that the child had sustained non-accidental injuries to the arms, face, and body.
The injuries included fractures to the arms and bleeding on the brain’s membrane.
Smith pleaded not guilty to charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and child cruelty.
However, after a trial at Preston Crown Court, the jury found him guilty.
During the sentencing, Judge Badley commented: “The exact events that caused the injuries remain unknown, but the jury determined that you inflicted them deliberately and intended to cause serious harm.

Wild’s evidence indicates that significant force was used on the arms, involving twisting and bending.
In my view, you pose a serious risk of causing harm to others through future offences.
This was a prolonged attack.” The court was informed that the child has made a strong recovery from the injuries.
Judge Badley added: “Thankfully, the long-term effects on (the victim) are not as severe as they might have been.
But there remains the risk of psychological harm.” As part of his sentence, Smith is required to serve at least half of it in custody and will be on licence for an additional four years following his release.
