2004: A professional cricketer who fatally stabbed Melanie Horridge in a Chorley alley was given a life sentence.Williams attacked Melanie after she threatened to reveal their secret affair, which had started in 2001.
Concerned about the potential consequences of their relationship becoming public, especially after discovering Melanie had given birth to his child, he carried out the assault.
The incident took place on February 27 when Melanie, aged 25, was pushing her son in a pram, with Williams, 27, having his own daughter in a separate pram.
Pleading guilty to murder, Williams was ordered by Preston Crown Court to serve a minimum of over 11 years before parole could be considered.
It was reported that Melanie suffered 24 stab wounds, including eight to her head and neck, leading to her death from blood loss.
Williams stated that they had begun fighting and that Melanie had jumped on him, claiming he used a weapon he found to stab her.
The judge condemned his actions as entirely his own doing and highlighted the tragedy of Melanie’s death and its profound effect on her children and family.
