DUMFRIES MAN INVOLVED IN VIOLENT ASSAULT OVER DRUG ROW IN LARGS
A MAN who strangled his ex-partner in Largs during a row over his drug use has been told he’ll have to wait to find out his fate.Kyle McWilliam attacked the woman while she was driving them through the town towards her home.
The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards her on December 5 last year.
The incident involved McWilliam grabbing the woman's neck and causing her to struggle for breath, after smacking her and demanding money.
McWilliam also took her mobile phone and handbag during the struggle.
Neighbours heard her screams for help and observed her crying, prompting them to intervene.
The woman was ultimately able to escape and reported the incident to police.
McWilliam, who had been in a relationship with her for about four months, initially moved back to Dumfries and later handed himself into Saltcoats police.
He is currently in custody at HMP Greenock and awaits sentencing, which has been deferred for background reports.
The court heard McWilliam's struggles with substance issues, and a supportive network including his grandmother and a charity.
McWilliam expressed his desire to overcome his drug issues, saying he 'just needs help with my recovery and I just seem to be hitting brick walls.' The sentencing will occur at a later date.
