2008: TEENAGE RAPIST JAILED
At Worcester Crown Court, a 59-year-old woman, who was raped, observed as her teenage attacker from Kidderminster was sentenced to four and a half years in a young offenders institution. The woman, whose name is protected under legal rules, fixated her gaze on 19-year-old Kye Calder, who sat with his head bowed in the dock.
Calder, living on Baxter Avenue in Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to raping the woman at a building site in the town center after she missed her last bus home to Worcester on January 29.
Prosecutor Mr.
Jonas Hankin stated that the victim, homeless at the time, had missed her bus and met Calder, then 18, who was intoxicated.
He offered to take her home, but instead led her to a building site, where he assaulted her by pushing her down and stripping her partially.
She called out for help but received none.
The next morning, workers found her distressed.
Calder was arrested later that day.
In police interviews, Calder claimed that he was drunk and that the woman was also intoxicated, suggesting she had consented to kissing.
The prosecution, however, did not accept this version of events.
It was also noted that Calder had previous convictions, including an offence for unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl when he was 15.
During his hearing, defence lawyer Miss Lynette McClemment emphasized Calder’s immaturity and said he now regrets his impulsive action.
She highlighted that Calder had been bullied during his 181 days in detention and warned that he would be permanently marked by this crime.
The judge, Mr.
John Cavell, ordered Calder to register as a sex offender for life and acknowledged that, while the victim’s injuries were not physical, she had been emotionally harmed.
