KURT WEBBER OF KINGWOOD SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF UNDERAGE GIRL IN BRISTOL
In November 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Kurt Webber, a resident of Kingswood, who was convicted of heinous sexual assault against a young girl under the age of 13. The incident, which took place in Kingswood, shocked the local community and drew significant attention from law enforcement authorities.According to court proceedings, Webber, aged 30 and residing on Court Road in Kingswood, engaged in the abuse of the young girl. To manipulate her into silence, he used a combination of gifts—ice cream and sweets—telling her not to disclose what had happened, even to her mother. Despite his efforts to silence her, the girl eventually confided in someone, revealing the details of the assault, which caused her considerable distress and guilt for breaking her promise.
Webber denied all allegations of wrongdoing during the trial. However, the jury at Bristol Crown Court was convinced by the compelling evidence presented against him. After careful deliberation, they found him guilty of raping a girl under 13 years of age. The court's decision led to a substantial prison sentence, with Judge Michael Longman imposing a total of 14 years behind bars—13 years of custody followed by an additional year of extended supervision to monitor his behavior post-release.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Longman emphasized the severity of the crime and the persuasive nature of the victim’s testimony. He stated, “The jury found, on very compelling evidence, that you raped her. The evidence of (the complainant) was extremely persuasive. You told her not to tell anyone what happened and obviously felt she would do as she was told to keep a promise. But she did tell someone. It plainly troubled her she had broken her promise.”
Furthermore, the judge ordered Webber to register as a sex offender indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. Additionally, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was issued to prevent any future offenses, reflecting the court’s commitment to safeguarding the community from potential re-offending.
Prosecutor Mark Worsley highlighted the manipulative tactics used by Webber, noting that he exploited the child's trust and innocence. Worsley explained, “He committed the offence and then gave her ice cream and sweets and told her not to tell anyone, not even her mother. She felt like it was her fault.” The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the need for protective measures for vulnerable children in the community of Kingswood and beyond.
