KINGSWOOD MAN JAILED FOR CHILD ABDUCTION AFTER RELATIONSHIP WITH 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A man from Kingswood, who is a father of two, has been sentenced to prison after engaging in a sexual relationship with a vulnerable 15-year-old girl.Jonathan McConn, aged 32, established contact with the girl through social media, and their messages revealed they had been having intimate conversations.
Police responded to intelligence reports and tracked the girl to McConn's residence, where she was found along with two bus tickets and a cinema ticket, indicating they had traveled together.
Surveillance footage confirmed their journey by bus and showed her in the cinema foyer.
McConn admitted to child abduction and received a prison term of two years and ten months from Judge Mark Horton, who stated: "She was vulnerable and there was a breach of a formal warning to stay away from her.
There was sexual activity involved, and it was not merely affection but the abuse of a young girl." The court also heard that McConn had been issued a child abduction warning notice regarding his relationship with the girl, which he had ignored.
During police interviews, he offered no comment.
His defense claimed that he has ADHD, was on medication at the time, and argued that the girl was nearly 16, asserting that their contact involved no lure or abduction but was simply communication over social media, with her approaching him.
Prosecutor Emily Heggadon highlighted that McConn had breached the warning by continuing to communicate with the girl.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about violations of restrictions on contact with minors and the serious consequences of such actions.
