KRISS MCCORD FROM MAPPERLEY JAILED IN THE PHILIPPINES FOR SEX OFFENDER BREACHES
In a significant development in the ongoing efforts to monitor and control convicted sex offenders, Kriss McCord, a 59-year-old man formerly residing in Mapperley, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court. The sentence was handed down after McCord pleaded guilty to multiple violations of the conditions set out in his sex offenders' registration and license requirements.McCord's criminal history is extensive. In 1999, he was convicted and sentenced to nine years in prison for three counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault, all involving a young victim. Following his release in 2005, he was mandated to register as a sex offender and adhere to strict conditions designed to monitor his activities and whereabouts. However, McCord failed to comply with these legal obligations and, further complicating matters, moved to the Philippines without informing the authorities.
His departure from the UK and subsequent residence in the Philippines became a matter of concern for law enforcement agencies. The Nottingham Police’s Dangerous Persons Management Unit, in collaboration with the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre, launched an investigation that eventually led to the tracing of McCord to Nueva Ecija in the Philippines. This international effort culminated in his deportation back to the United Kingdom.
Detective Superintendent Jackie Alexander emphasized the importance of this case, stating, “This successful prosecution should send out a clear message to any offender being monitored by the police. It shows the lengths that we are prepared to go to, to bring them to justice.”
McCord’s arrest in the Philippines occurred in December 2006, when Filipino police detained him. He was held in a detention centre for two years before being deported and subsequently banned from re-entering the country. His case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tracking and prosecuting sex offenders who attempt to evade justice by relocating internationally.
