COLCHESTER MAN HANDED SUSPENDED PRISON FOR SICK CHATS WITH ONLINE PAEDOPHILE GROUP
A Colchester man, Kirk Matthews, admitted attempted sexual communication with a child, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.
During the case, Matthews engaged in chats over several weeks with a person posing as a 13-year-old girl, handpicked by a vigilante paedophile group.
Matthews asked for a picture of her wearing a short skirt without underwear and sent naked pictures of himself.
The police were informed after the vigilante group detained Matthews based on their evidence.
The chats involved Matthews asking for pictures of her chest, pictures of her wearing a short skirt without underwear, and discussing having sex with her.
Ipswich Crown Court sentenced him to a 20-month prison term, suspended for two years, along with a 100-day alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement, a 15-day rehabilitation activity, and 40 sessions of a sex offenders' programme.
Additionally, he is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and must sign the sex offenders’ register for the same period.
His lawyer stated Matthews felt ashamed, was living with his mother, had not consumed alcohol since January, and was deeply remorseful, claiming the offences were a response to personal hardships and threats following publicity.
