CLACTON MAN WHO WAS JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AVOIDS SECOND PRISON TERM
A convicted sex offender named Kian Leahy, aged 23, was involved in a breach of a court order despite previous convictions for child sex offences.
He had an argument with his father at an address in Clacton in March and subsequently stayed with his girlfriend in Witham, which was a violation of his sexual harm prevention order that lasts until 2032.
This order prohibited Leahy from residing at addresses where children under 16 were present unless he had written approval from senior social services.
The court was told that the girlfriend’s parents, aware of Leahy’s past convictions, allowed him to stay there from March 11 to April 10, despite knowing the restrictions.
Two minors aged 8 and 11 were at the residence, breaching the order.
Leahy also failed to properly register his residence with police and set up a bank account without informing police officers, further breaching the order.
The judge, Richard Wilkin, recognized Leahy's history of sexual risk and the fact that he moved into a property with young girls, acknowledging the risks but also noting prison capacity issues.
Leahy pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching the sexual harm prevention order and was sentenced to a one-year suspended jail sentence for two years.
Additionally, he must wear an electronic tracking tag, complete 120 hours of unpaid work, attend 20 days of rehabilitation, and participate in a 40-day accredited programme.
