KEVIN VANLINT AND ANDREW BARNETT SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS EACH FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN SWANSEA
In a case that has shocked the community of Swansea, two men, Kevin Vanlint and Andrew Barnett, have been sentenced to nine years in prison each after being found guilty of sexually abusing young children.The disturbing details of the case emerged during a hearing at Swansea Crown Court, revealing the profound trauma inflicted upon the victims by the two offenders.
Kevin Vanlint, aged 35, residing on Heol Hermas, and Andrew Barnett, aged 30, of Penderry Road, both pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to child sexual abuse.
Barnett admitted to nine counts of assaulting a child under the age of 13, while Vanlint pleaded guilty to five similar charges, along with two additional counts of inciting others to commit such acts.
The court was informed that Vanlint would often give chocolate to his young victims as a form of reward, a detail that underscored the manipulative nature of his abuse.
The abuse was uncovered after one of the children was taken to see a general practitioner, who asked whether anyone had been touching them inappropriately.
This medical consultation led to the investigation that ultimately revealed the extent of the abuse.
Prosecutor Catherine Richards described the lasting impact on the victims, stating, "The two children are coming to terms with the trauma they have suffered.
They imagine them dressing up as a judge in court.
They remain fearful they will escape from prison." The victims' fears and trauma highlight the deep psychological scars left by the offenders' actions.
During the sentencing, the court heard from legal representatives for both men.
John Hipkin, representing Barnett, emphasized that his client had pleaded guilty, thereby sparing the victims from the ordeal of giving evidence in court.
Hipkin stated, "He has pleaded guilty and avoided his victims from having to give evidence.
He deserves and expects a lengthy custodial sentence and in custody will undergo the programme of treatment that will be available to him in that setting."
