In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Cwmbran, Kevin Richards, a 20-year-old apprentice electrician, was sentenced to three years in a young offenders' institution after being found guilty of multiple sex-related offences. According to the detailed testimonies presented during the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, Richards was involved in a series of alarming incidents that demonstrated a clear danger to women and young girls. One of the most serious allegations involved an assault on a 15-year-old girl in Cwmbran. Just three days after this incident, Richards was involved in another assault in the same area. He grabbed a 15-year-old girl by the shoulders, dragged her along the ground, and attempted to pull down his trousers while assaulting her indecently. The girl fought back fiercely, kicking her legs and screaming, which caused Richards to flee the scene towards the Blenheim shops. This aggressive behavior underscored the pattern of predatory conduct that the court found deeply troubling.

On May 9, Richards was again in the spotlight for his inappropriate actions, this time on Maendy Road in Cwmbran. He exposed himself to two 15-year-old girls, further demonstrating his troubling pattern of indecent exposure. When police officers arrested him, Richards reportedly admitted to feeling compelled to expose himself to women, explaining that he sometimes felt chased from the scene after committing these acts. His own words revealed a troubling acknowledgment of his compulsive behavior, which he claimed he found difficult to control.

During the trial, Richards’ defense attorney, Peter Harding Roberts, acknowledged the gravity of his client’s actions. He stated, “He accepts the indecent assault was appalling and outrageous, that the girl was terrified and frozen with fear. Her account of what happened is not challenged.” Roberts also emphasized that Richards recognized he posed a danger to others, was genuinely frightened about what he might do in the future, and was in desperate need of help to address his issues.
