VALE OF LEVEN SEX ATTACKER JAILED FOR SIX YEARS AFTER LIFE-THREATENING ASSAULTS
Kevin Raymond, 28, subjected the women to years of violent abuse at addresses in his hometown and Helensburgh. In one incident, he attacked one of the women after she visited the now-closed Logie Baird pub in James Street, Helensburgh, where Raymond was working as a bouncer.
He was placed on the sex offenders register for ten years following a sex attack on one of his victims.
Raymond showed no insight regarding the impact of his crimes and minimized his actions, according to court reports.
He was convicted of five charges of verbal, physical, and sexual violence against two women and was found guilty of assaulting both women to the danger of their lives.
He was also convicted of sexually assaulting one of the victims, though he was acquitted of raping her.
The court sentenced him to a jail term of four and a half years with an additional 18-month extended sentence.
Lady Haldane stated, "You have been convicted of five serious charges of verbal, physical, and sexual violence against two women.
It took great courage for these women to come forward and give evidence against you.
Your controlling, derogatory, and abusive behavior was not only verbal but physical.
This was to the extent that your physical assaults were to the danger of each of their lives.
Regrettably, you appear to show little insight into the seriousness and potential consequences of your behavior.
Despite acknowledging much of the factual scenario, you continue to minimize and deflect from your own liability.
You've shown no regret for your actions.
Your actions have had, and continue to have, a profound effect.
I note you are eager to avoid a custodial sentence, but this is an unrealistic aspiration." One victim believed she was going to die, while the other ended up in hospital after she attended the bar where he was working during a shift.
Raymond was found guilty of assault to the danger of life for both women and of sexual assault on one of them, though he was not convicted of raping her.
