HIGHLAND MAN KEVIN MILLER JAILED FOR CONTROLLING DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN
A woman has spoken out about the “devastating” abuse she endured from her businessman husband, Kevin Miller. He was sentenced to 34 months in jail for his controlling and abusive campaign against his estranged partner Linda.
The judge, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald, described his conduct as coercive, abusive, and controlling, which caused her significant distress and long-term effects.
The court also imposed a five-year non-harassment order on Kevin Miller and a one-year order on his daughter Lauren Miller, who was also involved in the abuse.
Linda Miller has bravely shared her experience, stating: “This case demonstrates the devastating lengths to which an abuser will go just to retain power and control and prevent you from leaving.
I never gave up hope of escaping, and that day came.
With the support of my family, friends, and a large support network, I was able to press charges and see justice served.” Her custodial sentence was backdated to May 15, when she was first detained.
The trial at Inverness Sheriff Court revealed that Mrs.
Miller was first assaulted by her husband in 1994.
Kevin and Lauren Miller, along with another daughter, Courtney, 22, initially faced numerous charges including assaults, stalking, abduction, attempting to pervert the course of justice, and threatening behavior.
However, eleven charges were dropped, and Kevin was found guilty on charges of assault and stalking Mrs.
Miller from May 2017 to April of the following year.
Mrs.
Miller disclosed that she had left the family home, sought assistance from Women’s Aid, and moved to temporary accommodation in Lossiemouth and Inverness.
Despite her efforts, her husband and daughter tracked her down and bombarded her with messages to persuade her to return.
She expressed hope that her case will encourage others in abusive situations to seek help and thanked the police officers involved in her case.
Miller’s sentence was sentenced to be served in custody from the date of her detention.
