DAWID JANOWSKI FROM ALNESS SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY INVOLVING CHILDREN IN HORRIFIC CASES

An individual from Alness, identified as Dawid Janowski, has been found guilty of possessing a significant collection of indecent images of children, a crime that has been described as contributing to the ongoing and deeply disturbing abuse of minors. The authorities revealed that Janowski’s devices contained over a thousand illicit images, including videos depicting girls aged between one and 12, as well as photographs of girls aged between three and 15. Some of this material was classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of child exploitation content.

During a sentencing hearing held at Inverness Sheriff Court, it was disclosed that Janowski, aged 37, denies any sexual attraction to children. He claims that he came across the illegal material by following links in a chat room, suggesting a lack of intent or awareness of the nature of the content at the time of discovery. Despite his denial, the court was presented with the gravity of his actions and the impact they have on victims.

Janowski’s solicitor, Clare Russell, addressed the court, emphasizing her client’s remorse and understanding of his underlying issues. She stated, “He is someone who has accessed this material for a reason. He understands the underlying desires of why he has done it and is disgusted by that.” Ms. Russell further highlighted that Janowski recognizes the need for treatment and has already taken steps to address his offending behavior. She also provided character references, indicating that Janowski has a strong support network and is under watchful supervision to prevent further offenses.

It was noted that Janowski’s offending took place between June 17 and June 21, 2023, at his residence in Alness, specifically at Obsdale Park. The court was told that he is considered to be at low risk of reoffending sexually, and his proactive efforts to seek help were acknowledged.

However, Sheriff Sara Matheson did not shy away from condemning the nature of Janowski’s actions. She stated, “Your actions have contributed to the ongoing abuse of young children in a quite horrific manner – I take this matter extremely seriously.” The sheriff emphasized the severity of the crime and the harm caused to victims, underscoring the importance of appropriate sentencing.

Instead of imprisonment, Sheriff Matheson opted for a community-based sentence, reflecting her view that treatment and supervision would be more effective. Janowski was placed on a community payback order for three years, which includes supervision and the requirement to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work. Additionally, he is subject to strict conduct requirements, including restrictions on internet use, social media, and apps, as well as a prohibition on any unapproved contact with children, such as entering parks or playgrounds where children are present without permission from his supervising officer.

Furthermore, Janowski will remain on the sex offenders register for a period of three years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and management of his case. The court’s decision reflects a serious stance on child exploitation crimes, balancing the need for accountability with the potential for rehabilitation.
