KEVIN JONES SHOCKING ABUSE IN DERBY: VICTIM SPEAKS OUT AFTER 14-YEAR NIGHTMARE
Lucy Buxton, a woman aged 35, has courageously shared her harrowing 14-year ordeal of enduring control, manipulation, and violence at the hands of her former partner, Kevin Jones. Her story sheds light on a long history of abuse that began shortly after their initial meeting in 2010, revealing a pattern of possessiveness and coercive behavior that escalated over the years. From the outset, Jones exhibited controlling tendencies, monitoring her phone and restricting her interactions with friends and family members. His manipulative tactics included issuing threats to ensure compliance and silence, creating an environment of constant fear and intimidation. Lucy recalls how he would not permit her to get haircuts, a seemingly minor detail that underscored his obsessive need for control. She was subjected to relentless surveillance, feeling increasingly isolated and powerless.
The situation deteriorated further as Jones's struggles with alcohol and gambling addiction contributed to episodes of physical violence and aggressive threats. Lucy vividly remembers an incident where he punched a kitchen cupboard during a heated argument, a clear display of his volatile temper. Despite her efforts to escape, Jones stalked her and issued threats multiple times, making her feel unsafe even when she was attempting to leave the abusive relationship. Her fears intensified, especially when Jones returned from nights of heavy drinking, and in March 2024, he made a dangerous driving gesture towards her and their children, heightening her anxiety for their safety.
In March 2025, Kevin Jones was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being convicted of dangerous driving and harassment. The court also imposed a lifelong restraining order to prevent any further contact with Lucy and her children. Despite this legal action, Lucy remains deeply concerned about the possibility of his early release, which could occur as soon as August 2025. She continues to live with the fear that her life and the safety of her children are still at risk.
Demonstrating remarkable resilience, Lucy attended Jones's sentencing hearing and read a powerful victim impact statement. Her act of bravery was a testament to her determination to reclaim her voice and her freedom from the cycle of abuse. She expressed her frustration with what she perceives as the leniency of the justice system and voiced her worries about the ongoing threat Jones poses, emphasizing the need for stronger protections for victims of domestic violence in Derby and beyond.
