KEVIN DUFFY OF MERSEYSIDE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN GRAVESEND
In October 2011, Kevin Duffy, of Trinity Road, Merseyside, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for abusing a young girl in Gravesend.Duffy, aged 36 at the time, was convicted of seven out of eight charges brought against him by Maidstone Crown Court.
Jurors heard that between 1997 and 2001, Duffy indecently assaulted and engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with the girl for over two and a half years, beginning when she was only four years old.
Following a police investigation triggered by information received, Duffy was arrested in Merseyside on November 4 and was subsequently charged on January 5 of the following year.
On October 18, he was sentenced after being found guilty of three counts of indecent assault and four counts of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.
Detective Constable Naomi Moore, from the child abuse investigation unit, stated: “Duffy is an evil man who preyed on this young girl for more than two years for his own sexual gratification.
He committed a sustained campaign of abuse on the girl, who was only four years old.
Duffy repeatedly and regularly sexually assaulted her without regard for the harm and suffering inflicted.” She emphasized the importance of the victim’s bravery: “The success of this investigation would not have been possible without her courage, and she should be commended for her strength in coming forward to report these crimes.” Detective Moore added her hope that the sentence would allow the victim to continue rebuilding her life, saying: “I hope the sentence imposed today will give her peace of mind, knowing that this man will remain in prison for some time.
I also hope this sentencing encourages past and present victims of similar crimes to come forward and report them to Kent Police, confident that those responsible will be brought to justice.” Duffy will remain subject to a Sex Offenders Prevention Order until further notice and is required to sign the sex offenders register for life.
As of May 2018, Duffy has been released from prison and is living back in the Liverpool area.
