NORWICH MAN KEVIN DUFFIELD JAILED FOR LIFE FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
A man who raped a woman after a night out in Norwich has been jailed for 11 years.Kevin Duffield, 56, attacked the 20-year-old who had been plied with drink and cocaine and taken back to a property in Aylsham.
King’s Lynn Crown Court was told he later tracked down the woman again and sexually assaulted and groped her breasts in his car on Mousehold Heath.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court she had been left feeling “dirty, confused, lost and broken” after the rape in January 2015.
Her life “spiralled out of control” and she had taken an overdose and been found slumped under a bridge by a dog walker, the court heard.
Her statement expressed determination not to let the offender destroy her.
Duffield, from Carter's Lane, Stratton Strawless, was found guilty of sexual assault and one count of rape after two trials.
A second man was acquitted of two counts of raping the same woman.
Judge Andrew Shaw sentenced Duffield to 11 years in prison, placing him on the sex offenders register for life and granting an indefinite restraining order.
The court was told both men had met the woman at a live music event at the Golden Star pub on Colegate before going on to Essence nightclub on Prince of Wales Road.
Duffield denied knowing the woman had been given drugs and claimed their sexual encounter was consensual in the living room of the second man’s house where she had been taken.
The judge emphasized that Duffield must have known she was seriously intoxicated and caused her extreme psychological harm, including night terrors and bedwetting that lasted seven years, stating “The impact on her has been immense.
She was never the same person again.”
