KENNETH FAIRLEY FROM MURTON SENTENCED TO 23 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC SCHOOLGIRL SEX ATTACKS IN NEWCASTLE
In a case that has shocked the local community and drawn widespread media attention, Kenneth Fairley, a 47-year-old man from Murton, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 23 years for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against two young girls. The crimes took place over a period of time and involved severe abuse, with Fairley employing threats and physical force to silence his victims and prevent them from speaking out.During the proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court, Judge Penny Moreland delivered a stern and condemning statement to Fairley, emphasizing the profound impact of his actions. She stated, “You robbed them of their childhood. You have caused them dreadful pain. You continue to deny the offences, you have shown no remorse whatsoever for what you did.”
Fairley, who resides on Toft Crescent in Murton, was found guilty by a jury of 14 counts of rape, five counts of indecent assault, one count of indecency with a child, and one count of attempted rape. Additionally, he was convicted of an intimidation charge after threatening one of his victims with the words “you’re dead” when she reported his abuse to the police. Despite the overwhelming evidence and his conviction, Fairley maintained his innocence, telling the court, “I’m killing myself, I’ve done nothing wrong,” after the verdict was announced.
The court heard harrowing details of the abuse inflicted upon the victims. One girl was repeatedly raped and subjected to ongoing sexual assault, with Fairley using threats, bullying, and physical force to keep her silent and compliant. Judge Moreland condemned his actions, stating, “You raped her. Unmoved by her pain and tears, you kept her silence by threats, by bullying and by force. You broke her spirit so she submitted to you.”
The second victim also endured repeated abuse, and Fairley’s attempts to rape her were similarly described as relentless. The judge remarked on his lack of remorse, saying, “Once again, you were unmoved by the upset you were causing her.”
As part of his sentence, Fairley is required to adhere to a sexual offences prevention order and will be registered on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The case has sparked reactions from the community and legal representatives alike. Fairley’s defense attorney, Julie Clemitson, mentioned that Fairley is not in good health, which may influence his future legal proceedings.
Following the sentencing, Diane Hanlon, aged 43 and Fairley’s sister-in-law, expressed her disagreement with the verdict, stating that Fairley plans to appeal the decision. She also revealed that her family intends to start a petition, asserting their belief in his innocence and seeking to challenge the court’s ruling.
