KEITH LOCKE CAUGHT IN YEOVIL CHILD SEX OFFENDER SCANDAL
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Yeovil, a 54-year-old man named Keith Locke was apprehended by police officers during an undercover operation aimed at combating online child exploitation.Locke, a carpenter from Longmead, Yeovil, believed he was engaging in conversations with a 12-year-old girl, but in reality, he was communicating with an undercover police officer.
Locke had a long-standing marriage of 30 years, yet his online activities revealed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
He admitted to charges that included inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, as well as possessing a significant collection of illicit images.
Specifically, he was found to have made 124 images classified as Category A, the most severe category, depicting children as young as two years old.
Additionally, he possessed 120 images in Category B and 351 images in Category C, all of which involved child abuse.
The prosecution, led by Alistair Haggerty, presented evidence at Taunton Crown Court indicating that Locke had targeted what he believed was a 12-year-old girl in an online chatroom.
However, the individual on the other end was an undercover police officer.
The conversation quickly turned sexual, with Locke asking invasive questions about the girl’s sexual experience and even inquiring about her bra size.
Locke continued to communicate with the supposed minor through chat messages and emails, where he encouraged her to touch herself and offered to help her with her sex education.
He also suggested that she have sex with a boy while he watched, demonstrating a disturbing level of predatory intent.
Following his arrest, police seized multiple electronic devices, including computers and mobile phones.
A search of these devices uncovered a horrifying collection of images depicting children as young as two being abused.
The investigation also revealed that Locke had searched for terms related to bestiality, incest, and very young children.
Furthermore, authorities found evidence that he had attempted to conceal his activities by searching for ways to hide and alter his IP address to evade detection.
During sentencing, Judge Ticehurst addressed Locke directly, highlighting the severity of his crimes.
The judge questioned whether Locke found his actions horrific, especially considering the abuse of the very young children involved.
He criticized Locke for believing he was speaking to a 12-year-old girl and for deriving sexual gratification from these interactions.
The judge also expressed disappointment and disgust, emphasizing the impact such behavior has on victims and their families, including Locke’s own wife of three decades.
Locke was sentenced to a total of 45 months in prison, with the sentences for each charge being 12 months for attempting to incite a child into sexual activity, 18 months for possessing Category A images, nine months for Category B images, and six months for Category C images.
However, the prison terms were suspended for two years, allowing Locke to continue his work with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, a charity dedicated to preventing child abuse.
In addition to his suspended sentences, Locke was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, required to register as a sex offender for the same period, and ordered to pay £550 in court costs.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from predators.
