KEITH ELLIS FROM BURBAGE SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND CHILD ABUSE IN LEICESTER
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Burbage, Keith Ellis has been sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses involving both an adult woman and two young girls. The crimes, spanning over a decade, have left a lasting impact on the victims and have raised serious concerns about safeguarding and justice in the area.
Keith Ellis, aged 50 and residing at Hanover Court, Azalea Drive in Burbage, was convicted following a trial that revealed disturbing details of his offenses.
He was found guilty of raping and indecently assaulting a woman during the period from 1986 to 1988.
In addition to these crimes, Ellis admitted to committing seven indecent assaults on two girls under the age of 13, as well as inciting one of them to engage in gross indecency.
The assaults on the girls occurred between 1992 and 1997, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior over many years.
During the trial, Ellis initially denied one of the allegations involving the girls but later changed his plea, admitting to the charges.
The court heard that the woman victim, who is now a mother herself, continues to suffer from flashbacks and recurring nightmares that feature Ellis, illustrating the deep psychological scars left by his actions.
Prosecutor Adrian Harris described her as feeling trapped, emphasizing the ongoing trauma she endures.
In mitigation, Graham Hutson, representing Ellis, highlighted that his client was of previously good character and was the sole carer for his ailing mother before his arrest.
Mr.
Hutson also pointed out that Ellis's health had significantly declined due to a history of chronic alcoholism, which may have contributed to his behavior.
During sentencing at Leicester Crown Court, Recorder Yvonne Coen addressed the court, stating that Ellis had exerted control over the woman victim and had degraded her through his actions.
She also detailed how Ellis groomed the two young girls, touching them sexually and encouraging them to touch him inappropriately.
The court was informed that one of the girls had reported her concerns to police in 1994, but unfortunately, this did not lead to prosecution at the time.
Despite this, Ellis continued his abusive conduct, forcing one of the girls into a sexual act.
Recorder Coen described Ellis as arrogant and manipulative in the pre-sentence report, noting that he was deemed unsuitable for sex offender treatment.
The court sentenced him to a total of seven years for the rape and indecent assault of the woman, and an additional five years and nine months for the offenses involving the girls.
Furthermore, an indefinite sexual offences prevention order was imposed, restricting Ellis’s contact with children.
The judge emphasized that these measures are necessary and proportionate to mitigate the risk of future offenses, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing threat he poses to the community of Burbage and beyond.
