SWANSEA TAXI DRIVER CONVICTED OF RAPING DRUNK 17-YEAR-OLD
A taxi driver named Katar Shahin from Hafod, Swansea, was convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl after luring her into his house. The court heard that the girl, who was heavily intoxicated after consuming alcohol, cannabis and a sleeping tablet, approached Shahin in the early hours of June 4 last year.
Shahin, a married taxi driver, offered to give her a free lift home but instead took her to McDonald's and then to his house on Aberdyberthi Street in Hafod.
There, he attempted to kiss and fondle her, and despite her resistance, she felt drowsy and passed out.
She later woke up naked with a used condom on the floor, and Shahin drove her to the Full Moon pub in High Street, where she was left outside.
The following day, she reported the incident to police, who found IT evidence linking Shahin to the assault, including a used condom with both their DNA.
Shahin initially claimed he had paid her for sex, but the jury rejected his version and found him guilty of rape.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and will be on the sex offenders register for life.
Police praised the victim's bravery and emphasized efforts to pursue such offenders.
